Until further notice: Helmand: The Soldiers’ Story – A free exhibition built, written and contributed to by soldiers of 16 Air Assault Brigade to tell the story of their experiences fighting in Afghanistan. National Army Museum, London. Tel: 0207 7300717.

May 8-10: Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo – Featuring troops from regiments recently returned from ops and entitled A Heroes Welcome, this not-for-profit event is being held in recognition of the selfless service of soldiers and the support of their families. May 22: Commemorative service to honour the 55 personnel who lost their lives in Bosnia, those injured and the many thousands who served there throughout the 15-year deployment. National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire. Tickets are available for veterans of the conflict, and the families and friends of those who lost their lives. June 7-8: The Chelsea Pageant – This spectacular show chronicling the early years of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, from its founding by King Charles II through to the entry of the first pensioners after the Glorious Revolution of 1688, is being held to raise funds for the Chelsea Pensioners’ Appeal. June 21st: TA100 National Pageant live action vignettes featuring tanks, guns and horses, to re-enact pivotal moments in the illustrious history of Britain’s Territorial force and demonstrate the essential capabilities that the Territorial soldier delivers to British Army operations today. September 10: A commemorative service to mark the end of operations in Northern Ireland will take place at St Paul’s Cathedral, London. The service will pay tribute to the 763 personnel killed in NI, and the 300,000 who have served in the province since 1969. Ticketing details to be confirmed. September 12: Rhythm Force, Kneller Hall, Twickenham – This year’s Corps of Army Music open air concert, featuring bands to cater for every taste, bars, food and fireworks, is hoping to raise more than £100,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund.
